Anddddd
Got invited to a Monday casting call for a Seth Rogan movie. Apparently I have to dress like a Hollywood hipster and let them take pictures of me to see if I qualify for being in the background of one scene which will take five days to film and potentially cover most of next month’s rent and OH MY GOD, could being jobless really be this easy?? It’s sort of sad to me that so many...

– All at once, Michael Chabon manages to make nostalgia meta and present a compelling defense of people fascinated by the chance survivals of the past. I definitely count myself among them. From Maps & Legends: Reading and Writing Along the Borderlands

Thoughts on SHAME
I saw Shame at the Prytania Theatre last week for the matinee price of 5 bucks. It’s one of those movies that stirs and unsettles you, stays in your bloodstream long after you’ve walked out of the theater. Everyone (on Tumblr, at least) jokes about the sex, but it’s not an erotic movie—every sex scene is graphic but not gratuitous, more tragic than titillating, loaded...

Do As Franzen Does. Do As You Like. →
jessicabrokaw: Roxane Gay on social media for writers. “[Franzen’s] overall comportment does not suggest an affinity for the levity of social networking.” Yup. Thank you for sharing, Bradley. This is funny and insightful and interesting.

So I guess I haven’t explicitly proclaimed this to the internet at large yet or anything, but I got let go from my job awhile back. [[MORE]] As a senior news editor for a health and lifestyle website, I used to oversee a writing staff of 15 people. I was responsible for training them (and in some cases flat-out teaching them how to write), curating our digital content, and occasionally...

I Am an Ack-tor
Got cast as an extra in the Mardi Gras episode of HBO’s Treme. YESSSS. Good money for three days of standing around in my costume for 12-hour intervals and eating free snacks. My friend Riki and I also put in for extra roles in Diablo Cody’s new movie—they were looking for twentysomethings for a Vegas bar scene—but we never got calls and the shoot was today. Ah well. ...
