Wow, I was very not-sober late last night when I waxed poetic about New Orleans all over my blog. After a quick reread, that was a little maudlin but all still true.
Here's The Thing
Dear followers,
I am leaving New Orleans.
Just for a little while. Maybe for the rest of the summer to get out of the heat or maybe for several months or maybe who knows. But I’ll be coming back.
The bottom line is, an opportunity to play music professionally came up and it makes the most sense to take it.
But here’s the thing. I feel guilty because I know this is the place.

Job
So, remember that prominent local weekly that was making me jump through all kinds of hoops for that really badass job? After stringing me along for two months, after interviewing me four times and introducing me to all the higher-ups and giving me three writing tests and making me hang out with the staff, they finally let me know that it’s over.
The editor said he’d tell me “by...

Wow, that’s awesome! You should do a Kickstarter for your album. I’d contribute!
I was totally just thinking that. Do I have to be internet famous for that to work?

Just met a really bloody-faced Liam Hemsworth. I didn’t get it before, but now I get it. Dude is pretty. He probably just needs to rethink this whole “trying to marry Miley Cyrus” situation.
I saw him yesterday at Coop’s!
I was like, “Wow, that is a hot guy. Wait a minute—it’s Gale!”

So when is the album coming out? :)
I wiiiiish! I am definitely writing a solo album right now, as all the songs coming out are in the same vein. As soon as I can get the funds to record, I want to set up some studio time.
But my friend Krystal and I have decided to join forces as the Dirty Water Darlins....

A coworker’s in-law does geocaching with her husband and five-year old daughter. On a road trip yesterday their find was a dead body, presumably a suicide.
I am not usually one to call suicides selfish but for fuck’s sake dude.
Janis, this sounds like a great story.
Jesus.

One Time Shy, by Janis, who is becoming steadily country-er
This is really hot off the press (I wrote it, like, RIGHT before I played it), hence why I’m reading the words and fumbling a little here and there. They’re all cowboy chords but I managed to put them in the most confusing patterns ever.
Oh, and I knew I couldn’t have been the first one to come up with that “you...

Want
I wanted someone to give it all to. Even in the beginning,
I imagined an urn into which I’d pour a lifetime
of secret knowledge, dreams made remarkable by affection.
I wanted to be adored, achingly. I wanted someone to want
me to teach him to move
to thirst
to be unbearably unspent. I wanted a man to know
my ripe sweet scent among the herd,
to be unafraid of my fury. I wanted

ahhh i fucking love it! i want to hear y’all singing live!
You should come hang out next time we have a drunken jam session! (Spoiler: we have a lot of them.)
I met the brilliant, tough, vivacious, beautiful Krystal just over a year ago, but it feels like we’ve been best friends since the beginning. Today is her birthday—that doesn’t really matter because we’ve both decided to stop getting older and just turn 23 every year, but still.
This video is mostly just wine-induced shenanigans, but there’s also a song we wrote!...
